2022-23 NBA Jersey Leak: Updated Classic, Statement, and City Editions

There was a recent NBA Jersey leak via Twitter that released a bunch of different jersey styles including the Classic, Statement, and City editions for the 2022-23 season.

This leak contained around 40 Jerseys. There were 22 City Edition Jerseys, 9 Classic Jerseys (or Throwback), and 6 Statement Jerseys (or Alternates).

Huge shoutout to @caseyvitelli and @skunwong32 as they were able to dig deep and discover some images of next season’s jerseys. Although they are low-quality images, you are still able to get the idea and make out what they will end up looking like.

City Edition Jerseys are a new concept that started in the 2017-18 season. The idea behind the City Edition jersey designs is to sport a look that will uniquely showcase the City and to give the franchise and fans a closer connection.

Nike VP Sonja Henning describes them as so,

“City Edition uniforms were intended to be windows into a city’s culture,” “Representing the last four years, the fingerprint that City Edition describes — that unmistakable identity of a place — is dynamic, and it expands beyond basketball.”

As you can see, some of the jerseys kept the same concept as this season but made a few subtle color changes – such as the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs.

NOLA sees an upgrade with their newly Mardi Gras-themed Jerseys. This is the perfect design to give fans a feel for Mardi Gras year-round. Toronto also has some nice-looking jerseys… It’s a little hard to tell, but it looks like it has Raptor scales on it. Washington goes for a bold look with the full pink jersey. I’m not exactly sure what the color design entails or where it came from, but I’m still here for it.

I do hope the Atlanta Hawks end up keeping the same City Edition Jerseys as this season because the yellow ATL Jerseys with the giant hawk in the middle were one of the best-looking designs this year.

Next up we have the Classic Edition Jerseys:

Classic jerseys AKA “throwback jerseys” are jerseys that are exact replicas of past jerseys. It all started in the 1996-97 season when the NBA decided to release the first set of “Hardwood Classics“.

The release of classic jerseys comes with a couple of rules. For one, the jersey can only be worn for one season. For two, the Jerseys must be some sort of celebration of a team championship or just a successful season when those Jerseys were won (usually divisible by 5, so for example 10-year anniversary or 25-year anniversary).

There are only a limited amount of classic jerseys released each season, but this year it looks like we will have at least nine.

The best of the bunch has got to be the old-school 90s Phoenix Suns jerseys… the colorway along with the basketball sun design on these jerseys is timeless. The 90s Bucks jerseys date back to when Ray Allen was raining threes in Milwaukee, and the purple closely resembles the Phoenix Suns jerseys. We’ve also got the 90s Piston jerseys making a return in their unique teal colorway, and then the eldest of the bunch, the 1950s Laker jerseys that come in sky blue and gold.

Last, but not least we have six Statement Jerseys:

Here we get a peek at a few statement jerseys, the new and improved alternate jersey.

Statement jerseys were incorporated in 2017 and they are worn to make a statement and set the tone for big games or rivalries. The majority of the jerseys are done in dark color to convey a sense of power and strength. Each and every statement jersey comes with its’ own bold and unique look.

The Dallas Mavericks set looks powerful, the large “Mavs” text looks much better than having the entire word “Mavericks” spread across. Golden State is rolling with an extremely dark navy blue color that goes well with the gold. I must admit, I’m questioning the look that the Clippers went with having a sort of random sharp edge shape going through the side… maybe it wraps around the whole uniform.. the font looks nice though. The LA Lakers jersey is really solid. The dark purple, gold, and black all go well together, I just think they should add the black font from the numbers in with “Lakers” as well.

Utah, you’re gonna have to do something with those jerseys. I’m sorry, but there’s nothing special about these at all. Do not replace the sunset jerseys with these.

Well, that covers it for the jersey leak… since it will be a while until next season I’m sure that most of the jerseys will have a few tweaks before they are officially released.

What did y’all think about these 2022-23 jerseys? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
